Gladys Selan

Gladys Selan, 84, of Massillon passed away Monday November 2, 2009 at Affinity Medical Center. She was born to parents David Earl and Salina Rebecca (Hooley) Hershey on Feb. 3, 1925 in Bowdil, OH. She grew up in Pleasant View, attended Pleasant View School on the corner of Wooster St. and Alabama Ave., and graduated from Washington High School. During WWII, she worked for Massillon Enterprise and after the war, she met and married Anthony John Selan in 1949. She then attended Nursing School and after graduation, worked for Massillon State Hospital for over 25 years before retiring. Aunt Gladys had 19 nieces and nephews, and many Great, and Great-Great nieces and nephews which whom she loved and helped in various ways over the years. In times of need she was a caretaker to her mother, husband, sister, and sister-in-law and her special friend. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Tony, brothers Joe, Paul, Howard, Ralph and infant brother William Hershey.; nephews Dave Hershey and Johnny Gochnauer, and special friend Edson Bechtel. She is survived by her sister Ruth Gochnauer of Orrville. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 4275 Lincoln Way W., Massillon, OH 44647 or the Stark County Humane Society. Calling hours will be Thursday November 5, 2009 from 6-8 P.M. at Paquelet Funeral Home 1100 Wales Rd. NE. Funeral services will be held Friday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 11:00 A.M. with additional visitation there from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Pastor Chip Belanga will officiate.
