Gertrude L. Harris

Gertrude L. Harris, age 72 of Massillon, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Affinity Medical Center. Gertrude was born January 20, 1938 in Asheville, NC. In the early ‘50s she moved to Massillon and was employed at Apple Creek State Hospital. She loved to do for everybody, everyone was her child. Gertrude’s memory will be cherished by her four children, Lillie ‘Diane’ Harris, Gerald Harris, Wanda Harris and Stannita Mason Harris both of Ashville, NC; a sister, Beverly Williams, and a brother, Charles Williams. There are five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. There are two special adoptive children, Dovie and Michael Smith, and two very special friends, Emma Darby, Ann Williams. There is a special nephew and niece, Gerald and Eddie May Harris, and a host of other nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A Homegoing Celebration of Gertrude Harris’s life will be at Noon Thursday, September 2, 2010, at Word of Liberty Christian Center in Massillon. The Rev. Bernard Lawson will eulogize. Friends can visit from 11 AM until the time of the service at the church.
