Gerda E. Trotter

Gerda E. Trotter, age 96 of Tuscarawas Twp., passed away Monday, July 28, 2008. Gerda was born June 11, 1912 in Switzerland to the late Friederich & Freida (Ogi) Opplinger and immigrated to Dover in 1919. When she married Clarence in 1938 she moved to Massillon. She was a homemaker and a member of St. John United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She volunteered work at Massillon Community Hospital. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Clarence (2002); brother, Walter; two sisters, Olga Huffman and Lena Chumney. She is survived by three daughters and a son in law; Marilyn Hardy, Judy (Tony) Venditti and Cookie Brugh Wichert; six grandchildren, Jeannette (Rusty) Harig, Jeanenne (Gerald) Sylvester, Jeffrey (Michelle) Brugh, Michael (Linda) Venditti, Marie Aufderheide, Melissa Venditti and eleven great grandchildren. Funeral service will be 11 AM Thursday at the Paquelet Funeral home in Massillon with Rev. Jeff Shultz officiating. Burial will be at Brookfield Cemetery.
