Gerald W. Whisler

June 21, 1938 — May 8, 2024

Gerald W. Whisler, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and loved member of the Massillon community, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of positivity, love and warmth, and an infinite amount of memories. Gerald, known affectionately as Jerry, was born on June 21, 1938, the son of the late Elmer and Ora Whisler. He graduated from Washington High School and Akron University and was a proud lifelong resident of Massillon, Ohio. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Sandra Daniels Whisler. Sandy was the love of his life with whom he shared countless joys, constant laughter, and many cherished moments.

Jerry's life was a testament to the power of love and family. He and Sandy raised two remarkable daughters, Shelley Whisler McGinley and Debbie Whisler, instilling in them the values of kindness, compassion, resilience, and hard work. When Shelley married Mark McGinley, Jerry embraced him as the son he never had. His love knew no bounds, especially when it came to his grandchildren, Hayes McGinley (wife Lindsay), Megan McGinley DeWan (husband Braeden), Marky McGinley, Noah Whisler, and Owen Whisler, who were the lights of his life. As humble as Jerry was, he loved boasting about their accomplishments to anyone who would listen.

As the proud third generation co-owner of Whisler Plumbing & Heating Inc, Jerry worked tirelessly alongside his brother Ron Whisler, building a thriving business rooted in integrity and excellence. He was dedicated to the men who worked for him and shared deep friendships with many of them. He was committed to the community of Massillon.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jerry was a man of many passions. Siesta Key, FL was his happy place, serving as his second home where he reveled in beautiful ocean views, playing golf, and the camaraderie of the Crescent Club or “the Club” as he called it. When in Ohio, Jerry and Sandy could be found most evenings sharing laughs with friends and pulling tickets at the Massillon Eagles Club.

Jerry was a great collector of friends. He was generous to anyone in need. His quick wit, warm smile, and gentle spirit endeared him to everyone he encountered, and his legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to call him friend, family, or colleague.

Jerry will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in all who knew and loved him. To honor Jerry Whisler’s memory consider an act of kindness in his name. Let us celebrate him on May 18, 2024, with calling hours from 10 am – 12 pm at the Paquelet Funeral Home with the service at 12 pm. A reception will follow at the Massillon Eagle Club. In lieu of flowers donations to Crossroads Hospice or The Massillon Boys and Girls Club would be welcomed.
