George " Whitey" Hoffner, 92, passed away at Aultman Hospital on Friday, December 21, 2012. He was born in Massillon on August 9, 1920 to the late Paul & Mary (Citui) Hoffner. George retired from Republic Steel Corp. and was a World War II veteran of the United States Army with three Battle Stars serving in the 76th Infantry Division, 364 Battalion. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Massillon, Life Member of The Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Council 554, 4th Degree Bishop Massillon Assembly, American Legion Post 221, Massillon Lions Club, and Life Member VFW Post 5047, Navarre. He is survived by three children, Dennis G. (Sandy) Hoffner of Canton, Jon Keith ( Jan) Hoffner, Massillon & Kathy (Terry) Evans of Canton, five grandchildren, Michelle, Angela, Arik (Stephanie), Jennifer, Greg , three great-grandchildren, Jonah, Anastacia & Ava. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty seven years, Mary M. (Buzille) Hoffner on May 23, 2008, two sisters, Mary Hoffner, Anne Schuler and brother, Peter P. Hoffner. Friends may call at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Wednesday December 26 from 6PM-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Josephs Catholic Church on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM, Fr. Raymond Paul, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Massillon.
