George W. Steffen

George W. Steffen, 96 of Massillon, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015. George was born on July 9, 1918 in Kidron, Ohio the son of Simon and Ella (Augsburger) Steffen. He graduated from Dalton High School and lived most of his life in Massillon. George was a U.S Army Air Force Signal Corp. veteran, serving our country during WWII. George began working for O.P.S. in 1939 and retired from Ohio Edison in 1983 after 42 years of service. He was a board member at the Salvation Army in Massillon, a 60 year member of the Dalton Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, served as a trustee at Beulah Beach Corp. and was a lifetime member of the AIEEE. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his infant son, Roger Kent Steffen, his brother, Lee Olin Steffen and his sister, Grace Bytheway. He is survived by his wife Wavalene M. (Villard) Steffen whom he married on March 29, 1941; his daughter, Pamela and son-in-law Stephen Armstrong; his grandchildren, Jenelle & husband Jeffrey Piepmeier, and Joel and wife Courtney Armstrong; his great grandchildren, Reagan Alexis, Mallory Anne, and Preston Clark Armstrong and Sophia Adeline and Robert Armstrong Piepmeier; his brother, Omer Steffen; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of George's life will be held on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home. Rev. Ralph Trainer, executive director of Beulah Beach Campground will be officiating. He will be interred at Kidron Mennonite Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 – 2 p.m. on Friday prior to the service.
