George R. Iams, 84 of Canton, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2017 following a brief illness. George was born on October 7, 1932 in Massillon the son of the late Cash and Goldie (Fogle) Iams, Sr. He was a 1950 graduate of Washington High School. Following graduation he enlisted into the Army and served our country during the Korean War in the 5th Army Battery B Artillery Unit. Following his military service he graduated from the College of Wooster with an Associates Degree in Business. Most importantly he married his childhood sweetheart Joan Marie Hindley on August 20, 1952 in the First United Methodist Church in Massillon. George worked for many years in the insurance business, relocating to many locations in the Midwest. He returned to Stark County in 1974 and started his own insurance agency. George enjoyed deer hunting (without actually shooting deer), playing weekly Poker games at the Louisville American Legion, meeting his friends at Mary Ann’s Doughnuts, where they solved the World’s problems and traveling wherever Joan told him to go. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Marie Iams, and his brother, Cash Iams, Jr. He is survived by his children, Gregory (Tammy) Iams, Bradley Iams, Leslie (Lee) Kuntz, and Phillip (Christina) Iams; grandchildren, Kathleen, Courtney, Stephanie, Dylan, Leah, Brianna, Emily, and Andrew; great grandchildren, Averie and Hunter; and sister, Wanda Iams. A Celebration of George’s life will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6- 8 p.m. and on Friday from 10-11 a.m. The family would like to thank the staff at Massillon Danbury, Aultman Hospital and Aultman Compassionate Care Center for their kindness and compassion.
