George L. Schlie, 89, loving husband, dad, “Pap”, and brother went to his heavenly home with the Lord on Sunday, March 27, 2022. George was born on February 7, 1933, in Pittsburgh, PA the son of the late George and Catherine Schlie. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his bonus parents, Bob and Doris Ullom, and his sisters Betty Ann Link, Mary Catherine Podnar, Genevieve Fiedor, and John “Jay” Schlie. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Joanne; daughters Debbie (Scott) Buchanan, Penny Lorenz, and Beth (Don) Dehnke; grandchildren Donnie (Amanda) Dehnke, Amy (Ken), Emily (Mark) Toole, Josiah Dehnke, David (Julie) Buchanan, Daniel (Christine) Lorenz, Joshua (Kyla) Lorenz, Jacob Lorenz, and Eric Itangata; great-grandchildren Kylah, Dakota, Braylie, Zari, Irie, Jeremiah, Zendo, Ziona, Zokarah, Karleigh, Ezekiel, Hannah, McKenna, Nora, Sadie, Sophia, Sydney, Samara, Kamden, and Kali; sister Roberta Neal; sister-in-law Susan Schlie; and countless nieces, nephews and friends. He was a United States Army veteran. After George retired from UPS, he and Joanne spent over 25 winters in North Fort Myers, FL. Living a Christian life and dedication to his family and friends were his top priorities. He was a faithful member of Canton Baptist Temple. He loved to play tennis, golf, fish, hunt and play cards with his family and friends. He always supported his children and grandchildren in anything they did. In addition to his deep devotion to his family, he will be remembered for his kind heart and keen sense of humor. Everyone loved George. To him there were no strangers only friends he hadn’t met yet. He will be missed by all. A funeral service will be held at Canton Baptist Temple Henniger Ministry Center on Monday April 4, 2022 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Donnie Dehnke, Officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Family and friends may gather at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon on Sunday April 3, 2022, from 2-4 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 9:30 – 11 a.m. before the service.
