George James Shearer

George James Shearer, age 76 passed away suddenly at Union Hospital in Dover on Sunday, November 08, 2015. He was born on January 07, 1939 to the late Ernest and Beulah Shearer in Canton. George was a 1957 graduate of Canton South High School. He married Hala Houck on May 26, 1962 and they shared 53 years together and she survives him. George worked as Maintenance Technician for SOHIO/BP after 44 years. George had a lust for life and enjoyed parties with family and friends, enjoying the great outdoors at his cabin in Pennsylvania, fishing and hunting; enjoyed Ballroom Dancing, was an avid gardener-planting flowers and vegetables and when things were slow enjoyed watching The Weather and History Channel. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Massillon and was a member of Clinton Masonic Lodge #47 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles-Canton #2370. George also was active with the "Your Move Program with the Healthplex in Dover. He will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, brother and brother-in-law, son-in-law, uncle and friend who will be sorely missed. George is survived by his wife Hala; his sister Shirley Fish; his brother Robert Shearer; his in-laws Susan & Larry Pitts, Russell & Lisa Houck, Antonio & Minerva Swad; his mother-in-law Verna Swad and his adopted grandson Blayne McVeen; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents George was preceded in death by his beloved dog Teddy Bear. A Celebration of his life will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church, 107 6th Street S.W. in Massillon, Pastor Dan officiating. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home, 1100 Wales Road N.E.on Friday, November 13, 2015 from 6-8p.m. with a Masonic Service at 5p.m. and 10-11a.m. at the church on Saturday.
