George Gipp, Jr. 89, of Massillon, died Wednesday evening at The Inn at University Village after a period of declining health, surrounded by his family. He was born in Massillon on January 6, 1922 to the late George & Mary Ladcau Gipp, Sr. George was a graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1941 and worked as a Tool & Die Maker at Ecko House Wares. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in WWII. He was a volunteer at Massillon Senior Center and Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed fishing at his cottage at Piedmont Lake, woodworking, made wooden trains, trucks and cradles for various organizations and special children. He is survived by two sons, David W. & Nancy Gipp, Michael G. & Janet Gipp all of Loganville, GA., daughter, Georgean M. & Patrick Gibbons of Orrville; four grandchildren, Michael A & Jennifer Gipp, Christopher L. Gipp, Alison M. Gibbons, David J. Gipp and three great-grandchildren, Gracie Gibbons, Michael Gipp and Madison Gipp. He is preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Dieringer Gipp; brother, John Gipp; three sisters, Irene Costea, Octavia Woutat and Jeane Marie Mossor. Friends may call at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Sunday, December 4, 2011 from 6-8PM and one hour prior to the funeral on Monday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 5, 2011 at 11:00 AM Pastor Robert Moskowitz. Military honors will be given at the cemetery.
