George D. Popa, 73, of Massillon passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at his residence after a short illness. He was born January 4, 1935 in Canton, OH the son of George and Helen (Popdavid) Popa. George was a truck driver for Yellow Freight retiring in 1994. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. George enjoyed renovating old homes as well as boating, camping, and golfing. George will be greatly missed by his family and friends. On March 9, 1957 he married Celeste ( Domenech) and she survives. Also surviving is his mother Helen Popa of Massillon; son’s Larry (Patricia) Popa of Cleveland, and Jeffrey Popa of Massillon; daughter Kathy Popa of Massillon; brother Dan (Bonnie) Popa of Canton; sisters Helen (Jack) Stover, and Vicki Bortz both of Canton. He was preceded in death by his father George Popa. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 P.M. at Paquelet Funeral Home 1100 Wales Rd., Massillon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Father Raymond Paul will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
