George A. Jurkovich, Sr., age 85 of Massillon passed away Monday January 30, 2017. He was born November 10, 1931 in Massillon to the late Tony & Mary (Bismar) Jurkovich. George served in the US Army and retired as production supervisor from Heinz Foods. His family will hold their 'Georges Treasures' forever in their hearts. His Treasures were custom made jewelry boxes, hope chests and other wood items. He will be remembered as a left handed pitcher in softball leagues. And they won a state title. His passion was fishing, especially in Canada. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen 'KK' Williams in 2013; sisters, Josephine (Molly) Wilson, Anna George, and Julia Triplett; brothers, John, Frank, Steve, and Joseph Jurkovich; and three siblings who died as infants. George is survived by his wife Marianne (Kovacsiss) Jurkovich with whom he shared 62 years of marriage, and three children: George (Vanessa) Jurkovich Jr., Stephanie Busch, Maryann (Dave) Cowley and a son-in-law John Williams. He has five grandchildren: Tony (Krista) Jurkovich, Jimmy (Ashley) Busch, Sarah (Dan) Rudibaugh, Joey Busch and Rachel Cowley; and one great grandchild, Dominic Jurkovich. Family and friends will meet 10 AM Friday at St. Barbara's Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial, his pastor Fr. Brian Cline will officiate. Friends may call Thursday from 5-7 PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Massillon Knights Foundation Building Fund.
