Geneva “Dorcas” Hattery, RN, 85, passed away on July 23, 2017, following a brief illness. She was born in Etowah County, AL on November 15, 1931 to the late Lewis F. and Etta (Satterfield) Sterling, Sr. Dorcas graduated in 1949 from Emma Sansom High School in Gadsden, AL and in 1952 from the Birmingham Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Massillon City Hospital and Massillon State Hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Massillon, where she served as Director of Sr. Saints Choir; taught YAC Sunday School Class and was involved with the Women’s Missionary Ministries; and was a member of the YMCA of Stark County and the Rubber Capital Harmonica Club of Akron. She is survived by her children, Diana (Dan) Davis and Robin (Sandy) Hattery; step-son, John (Marcella) Olenzak; eight grandchildren, Clint, Danny, Ashley, Angela, Andrew, April, Justin and Cathy; step-grandchildren, Sigmund and Beth; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lewis (Miriam) Sterling, Jr.; two sisters, Myrtle Penland and Patsy Usry; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, especially Amy (Mark) Ruark, for her care and compassion. Dorcas was also preceded in death by her husbands, Raymond E. Hattery and Sigmund Olenzak; a daughter, Peggy Parr; and her sisters, Marjorie Braswell, Virginia Abney, Lerah Tyson and Barbara Wilborn. Friends may call at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 6pm-8pm and one hour prior to a funeral service held at 10am in First Baptist Church, Massillon, Dr. Roger S. Alber, officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
