Garry G. Hilbert, 73, of Massillon, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Aultman Compassionate Care Center. He was born on May 27, 1943 in Alliance, Ohio to the late David and Omadeen (Shellenberger) Hilbert, Sr. Garry was a 1961 graduate of Alliance High School and proudly served his country for five years in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He then married Diana Lusk on January 21, 1967. They shared 50 loving years together. Garry was a member and former Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was very active with the church and his life of service to always helping others will never be forgotten. In addition to his dedication to the church, Garry was also a dedicated family man. His greatest pride and joy was being a husband, father and especially a grandfather. Garry also enjoyed a good science fiction novel and had a passion for all types of music. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Diana; children, Jason (Stacey) Hilbert, Emily (Ron) Peterson, Aaron Hilbert and Sarah Hilbert; sister, Pamela Smith; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Garry was preceded in death by his siblings, David Hilbert, Jr., Bonita Blake, Jesse Hilbert; brother-in-law, David Smith and daughter-in-law, Tracie King Hilbert. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 18th, 2017 at 11 a.m with visitation one hour prior to the service, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2625 Ohio State Dr SE, Massillon, OH 44646 with Bishop Eric Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, where military rites will be held.
