Celebrating The Life Love and Legacy of Our Beloved

Missionary Garrie Ernestine McDaniel

Missionary Garrie Earnestine McDaniel 64 of Canton transitioned from earth to glory March 14, 2023. Missionary Garrie was born October 4, 1958. She graduated from McKinley Sr High school, and later returned to college to be an example to her children. She earned her Bachelor’s in social work from University of Akron. Missionary Garrie was an active member of God Given Church of God in Christ where she served in many compacities whether it be singing loudly on the praise team or offering her help to the hospitality ministry, outreach ministry, and usher board. Her favorite was Sunday school teacher where she could be creative teaching children the word of God. Missionary Garrie worked in the public sector for many years however she knew her calling was helping others. Her passion and desire to serve increased which led her to leave Summit County Jobs and Family Services to focus on her assignment given by God. Her passion and vision to help others led her to found the Good Shepherds Helping Hand. Birthed through the Good Shepherds Helping hand she started a food and clothing pantry where she was able to feed thousands of people. Known for her annual sneaker give away where hundreds were able to receive brand new shoes for back to school. She was gifted with the mantle of entrepreneurship and was always ahead of her time. Her calling of help grew stronger and through prayer, fasting, closed doors, opportunities taken, tears and faith she founded in 1990 Neighbors Helping Neighbors, the first in Stark County reentry program for ex-felons, where she assisted with reintegration into the community. The program helped with employment, job readiness, self-esteem, and anger management classes. She would go into the prisons with love and encouragement and prepared them for life beyond bars. In 2015 she started her furniture assistance program where she assisted anyone in need with new furniture. She was truly driven and passionate about serving God's people. She lived her life according to Proverbs 31:20 " She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy". She met no stranger, and her presence marked a room for you. When you met her, she always asked you one simple question - “Did you start your day with Jesus?” and she would follow up with “you better read that Bible.” She loved the word of God and she loved sharing the word of God with everyone. Always ready to pray for anyone who needed it. It was her goal to always be found busy doing the work of God. Her heartbeat filled with love for her family. Her children and grandchildren were truly the apples of her eye.

She is proceeded in death by her son Lawrence " The Law" Roberson; mother Willie Mae Roberson; mother Cliffie Graves; brother Lawrence " Sonny" Merriweather; sister Renee Thomas.

In loving remembrance Missionary Garrie Earnestine McDaniel leaves to continue her legacy her daughter Cliffie (Jamal) Davis and her son Darrick McDaniel. Her grandchildren Taylor Roberson, Tyler Thatcher, Trenton Roberson, Jamon Thompson II, Joi Thompson, Jace Roberson, and Genesis Davis. One great grandchild, Trevyn Roberson; siblings, Vera Mae Roberson and Samuel Roberson; her cousin and road dog like a sister June Solomon and best friends who are like sisters Louise Thomas, Toni Daniels, Sylvia Allison, and Vikki Armstead. Along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, special friends and her God Given Church of God In Christ family.
