Gail L. Stewart, 78, of Norton, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, with her daughter by her side. Gail was born on January 20, 1944, in Canton, the daughter of William and Ethel (Wilson) Hopkins. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a proud graduate of Jackson High School. She was an avid NASCAR fan, especially Richard Petty. She followed the Canton Invaders, indoor soccer team. Gail enjoyed traveling. She loved spending time with her family, including her four-legged grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed attending the Stark County Fair, and never missed a tractor pull or band show. Gail took great pride in raising her daughter Erin. Gail was a very talented pianist. She loved singing. Gail sang with the Sweet Adelines International chorus group. She also sang at her church, First Christian Church. Gail was directly involved in the very first corneal transplant working alongside Todd Fladen at Timken Mercy Hospital. She worked for Northlawn Cemetery in sales. After that, she was a caregiver for family and friends. Gail worked for the Massillon Cemetery Association as the sexton for many years. She is survived by her Daughter, Erin E. (Steven) Stewart-Arness, Brother, Duane (Judy) Hopkins, Nephew, Mark (Dorothy) Hopkins, Nephew, Brad (Michelle) Hopkins, Niece, Cori Hopkins, Niece, Stacy (Roger) Davis; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and close family friend, Jason Ost. The family would like to thank the staff at Burbank Parke for their compassion and support. According to her wishes cremation will take place. There will be no calling hours or services. There will be a private celebration of Gail’s life will be held later.
