Age 87, of Massillon, passed away peacefully from Alzheimer’s on Saturday, April 22, 2017. She was born on March 5, 1930 to the late W. Laurie and Hilda Edwards in Jacksonville, Florida where she graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. After living in Ohio for more than 65 years, Freddie was always proud of her southern heritage. She graduated from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in 1952 where she studied classical piano. Freddie was an outstanding teacher at York and L.J. Smith Elementary schools where she touched the lives of so many students. She retired after 28 years of service to the Massillon City Schools. She worked as an escort for Fidelity Tours for 30 years traveling extensively all over the world. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church. Freddie enjoyed operas, gardening, playing bridge, golf and the Cleveland Browns. She instilled in her family a passion for the Jacksonville Beaches, New York City and music, especially The Messiah. She had spunk and was a gentle loving spirit. Her dedication and sacrifice to her family will never be forgotten. Freddie is survived by children Scott Cornell, Laurie (Jay) Bomze, Allison Conley; grandchildren Maggie and Andrew Bomze, James Cornell. She is preceded in death by her son Donald (Donnie) E Cornell Jr in 1962, her son-in-law Virgil Conley and her former husband Donald E Cornell Sr. A special thanks to Danbury Senior Living and Great Lakes Caring Hospice for their compassion and excellent care. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 pm at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. A Memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 25 at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Julia Wertz officiating. Cremation has taken place.
