Elder Frederick Douglass Clemmons Jr. was born to Frederick and Minnie (Johnson) on August 27, 1933 in Tuskegee, Alabama. He was called from labor to rest on October 10, 2017 in Cleveland, Ohio after enjoying 84 wonderful years. He was raised in Tuskegee, Alabama and graduated from Lewis Adams High School in 1950. After graduating from High School, he went to serve in the United States Army for 3 years. After serving his country, he attended Tuskegee Institute College and graduated with a degree in tailoring in 1952. He went on to serve in the United State Army were he fought in the Korean War. His first marriage was blessed with seven wonderful children. Elder Frederick Clemmons relocated to New York, NY in 1962. He attended Layfette College in New York, and in 1963 he met Josephine Phillips at Methodist Hospital. In 1970, after being tired of the way he was living he prayed to the Lord, and the Lord said Cleveland. Elder Clemmons didn’t understand at the time, but out of obedience he moved to Cleveland. Elder Frederick Clemmons second marriage was blessed with six wonderful children. In 1971, Elder Frederick Clemmons gave his life to the Lord and joined Mt. Hope Church under the leadership of the Rev. S. L Conley. He was very active in the church and held many positions such as Superintendent of the School, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and was an ordained deacon, and an ordained elder. He loved helping people in and outside the church, whether taking the missionary to Boston, MA when they were going to West Africa, or helping the elderly who were in wheelchairs to get to church or those who had no transportation. Not to mention he would not hesitate to pick up a hitch hiker or someone who hd broken down on the freeway. Elder Frederick Clemmons main occupation was as a commercial truck driver, although he could have made plenty of money driving out of state, he refused to because he wanted to be home every night with his family. He was a man that loved God and his family. His favorite three scripture were; Psalm 27; Psalm 23 and Philippians 4:4-13. After he lost his eye sight and became ill, he would always say “I don’t know what’s going on in other people’s life, only God knows”, but no matter what was going on in his life he never complained. Elder Frederick Clemmons Jr leaves to mourn his death his beloved and devoted wife Josephine Clemmons of 53 years; his siblings, James/J.T. Clemmons, Martha Russell and Willie (Alice) Clemmons; his 13 children, Cassandra Clemmons-preceded him in death, Frederica Clemmons, Belinda (Dale) Holt, Frederick (Sophie) Clemmons III, Derrick Clemmons, Walter (Susan) Clemmons, Mark (Davina) Clemmons, Josephine Marcella (Sylvester ) Blockson, Vaughn (Alicia) Clemmons, Frederick IV (Lorna) Clemmons- preceded him in death, Tabatha Clemmons, Michael Anthony (Jeanette) Clemmons and Jessie (Wendell) Holt; 25 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Frederick also has a host of other family members, church parishioners and friends who are in mourning as well. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 20th from 6-8 pm at the Paquelet Funeral Home, 1100 Wales Road NE, Massillon, Ohio 44646. On Saturday the funeral service will take place at 11:00 am at Friendship Baptist Church, 920-3rd Street SE, Massillon, Ohio 44646. He will be interred with military honors on Monday, October 23rd at 1:00 pm at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, Ohio 44273.
