Fred August Pildner, age 79 of North Canton, passed away on February 26th, 2021. Fred was born on August 2, 1941 in Canton, Ohio to Fred K. and Helen (Gravius) Pildner. Following his graduation from Washington High School in Massillon, he served in the United States Army, and then went on to work as a meter electrician for American Electric Power where remained until he retired as a manager. He was known as a selfless person who would do anything for family and friends. Perhaps his generosity was never more evident than when he donated a life-saving kidney to his son. Fred loved bird watching, gardening, Civil War history and, in particular, woodworking. He was an extremely talented, self-taught woodworker. One could simply show him a photograph and he could reproduce the piece. He created everything from Windsor chairs to fireplace mantles – many made in his favorite, Colonial American, style. He was a member of the AEP Retirement Club. He is dearly missed by his family and friends. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Barbara Blend, and by his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley (Colucy). He is survived by his two children, David (Jill) Pildner, and Debra (Dan) Taillard, his sister, Karen Surbeck, his three grandchildren, and his cat, “Chase”. Fred’s family would like to thank the Aultman Women's Board Compassionate Care Center for their kindness and support during his final days. A private interment ceremony will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred’s name to “Save Ohio Strays” (www.saveohiostrays.org/Public/Donations). Paquelet Funeral Home & Crematory 330-833-3222 www.paquelet.com
