Frank J. Savage Jr., age 79 of Massillon passed away August 22, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his family. Frank was born August 3, 1930 in North Adams, Massachusetts to the late Francis J. & Viola (Wing) Savage. Following High School he enter the Army and served in Korea with the 2nd Infantry Div.; 2nd Med. Bal. and was a prisoner of war for 18 months. Frank was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a 1967 graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. Frank had been employed at several funeral homes and owned and operated the Frank J. Savage Funeral Home in Navarre for a number of years. In 1983 he started as Inspector/Investigator for the Board of Embalmers & Funeral Directors of Ohio and retired in 2008. His memberships include: Life Member of V.F.W., Navarre Post #5047, Life Member of Elks, past president of the Cleveland Embalmers Association, and a Charter member of Ohio Investigators Association. In addition to his parents a sister, Nora Scerbo preceded him in death. Frank will be deeply missed by his wife and ‘soulmate’, Carol (Hofstetter) Savage with whom he shared 20 years of marriage on May 19th. He has four children: Cheri Jesse of Spring Hills, FL, Russell & Ann Savage of Huntingdon Valley, PA, James M. Savage of Navarre, Scott & Susan Savage of Beach City; a stepdaughter, Tonya Vincent of Canton and a stepson, Glenn ‘Chip’ & Christine Vincent of Massillon. There are 11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a best buddy, Charles Wisby (a fellow State Board Inspector) of Bethel, OH. A Celebration of Franks life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1:00 P.M. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. The family sends a special thank you to his physicians, Drs. Anthony Bertin, M. Terrance Simon, Norman Rafique, and his caring staff at Tri-County Hematology & Oncology Associates and last but certainly not least Mercy Medical Hospice. .
