Francis L. Kahrig, 72, of Massillon, died Sunday, March 28, 2010, at Aultman Hospital. Born on May 11, 1937, in Lewisville, OH (Monroe County) to Lawrence and Ella (Christman) Kahrig. He attended Lewisville High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked at various jobs including Buckeye Feed Mill, Lehman Awning, MCA Sign Company, and retired from the Timken Company after 30 years of service. He then was employed by Yellow Freight until retiring in 2000. Francis also served as a volunteer fireman for Dalton and Perry Township. Francis was a member of the Northwest Church of Christ in Canton, OH. During his life, he had many interests. He owned and operated with his family the Dairy Knoll in Massillon, OH. He also was a partner in the development and operation of Deerwood Campground and Canoe Livery in Killbuck, OH, with a camping store located in Canton, OH. Francis , also known as “Tex,” enjoyed country music, fishing, camping, traveling, woodworking, gardening, playing cards and marbles, bowling, puzzles, and tractor pulls. Most of all, he loved his family and enjoyed being with them. He is survived by his wife of 5 years, Dorothy Wadian; daughter, Marita (Brian) Simon of North Lawrence; son, Chris Kahrig of Massillon, grandsons, Garrett, Austin, and Jacob Simon, Corey Ady; great-grandson Tayden; step-children Terri (Dave) Taylor of Loudenville, Randy (Val) Wadian of Massillon, Rick Wadian of Massillon, Vickie (Scott) Lewis of Kingwood, TX, Jeff Wadian of Massillon, and Susan (Rob) Rieske of Toledo; step-grandchildren Dan (Elisha) Rouse, Brianna Rouse, Denver Wadian, Dustin, Megan, and Sarah Lewis, Stephanie and Nathan Wadian, Seth, Kara, Luke, and Ella Rieske; step-great-grandson Branson Rouse; seven brothers; Herman (Eileen) Kahrig of Barnesville, OH, Lester (Eula) Kahrig of Pataskala, OH, Virgil (Vivian) Kahrig of Orrville, OH, Rodney (Betty) Kahrig of Woodsfield, OH, Kenneth (Kitty) Kahrig of Jerusalem, OH, Lloyd (Connie) Kahrig of Wooster, OH; five sisters; Martha Uppole of Lewisville, OH, Dortha Matz of Dalton, OH, Vera (Bob) Crock of Massillon, OH, Leora (Tony) Cruise of Eddyville, KY, Doris Kahrig of Rittman, OH; two sisters-in-law; Charlotte Horsley of Pataskala, OH, and Kathy Kahrig of Lewisville, OH; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Preceded in death by his parents, first wife Mary (Shanklin), daughter-in-law, Dixie (Ady) Kahrig; grandchildren, Alyssa, Zachary, Keyawnu, Dawson, Bryce, and Mariah Ady-Kahrig; brothers, William and Roger Kahrig; brothers-in-law, Edward Uppole, and Wilfred Matz. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 2, 2010, at 10:30 A.M. at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home 1100 Wales Rd. NE, Massillon, OH with Minister, Lance Lindenberger officiating. Burial will follow in the Stanwood Cemetery in Dalton, OH. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday, April 1, 2010, from 5 to 8 P.M. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. James Schmotzer for his compassion and exceptional care during Francis’ illness. We would also like to thank Dr. Schmotzer’s staff for their assistance and kindness.
