Frances “Franny” L. Binder, 90, of Massillon, passed away on December 27, 2023. She was born on August 30, 1933, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Walter and Mary (Coker) Miller.
She was a 1951 graduate of Massillon Washington High School and furthered her education at Bowling Green University where she graduated in 1955 with a bachelor's degree in music education. Franny also belonged to Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity at Bowling Green University.
Franny held many jobs throughout her life. She was the first music teacher at Perry High School and ended her working career at a children’s home in Pennsylvania. She also did extensive traveling throughout the world and visited places such as Germany, Switzerland, Africa, and many other countries.
Franny was well loved and known in the community. One of her favorite places to be at was the Massillon VFW where she enjoyed eating lunch regularly or just going to socialize. Her friends there were truly like a second family to Franny.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Binder.
She is survived by her close friends and longtime caretakers, Jeff and Brenda Schalmo who welcomed Franny with open arms into their family. She is also survived by her brother Robert “Bob” (Joanne) Miller.
In keeping with her wishes, no services will be held, and she will be laid to rest by her husband Larry at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to give special thanks to all those who have graciously helped care for Franny, including the amazing staff at Chapel Hill. Your love, compassion and care did not go unnoticed.
