Floyd Shell of Massillon, passed away on March 25, 2016 following a brief illness. He was born on April 2, 1927 to the late John Milton and Amanda (Cork) Shell. Floyd attended school in Ackerman, Mississippi. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. Floyd worked as a cook and a medical specialist. He retired in 1965 as a Sergeant E-6 after 21 years of service. Floyd moved to the Massillon area to be near his brother and extended family. He became well known in the community and loved to share stories from his experiences in the military. Those who knew him well, affectionately referred to him as "Sarge". Floyd was recognized for honorable service in the U.S. Armed Forces and was a member of the American Legion Post #221. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John L., Willie D., Mose L., Harvel, Obie and David Shell and his sister Mattie L. Shell. He is survived by a special niece, Helen (William) Poole, caregivers and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. A Funeral service will take place on Thursday, April 7, at 11:00 am at the Paquelet Funeral Home. Burial will follow with military honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
