Florence Charlene (Fairweather) Long passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016. She has joined her beloved husband, Emmett Hugh Long, in eternity. She was born August 14, 1922, in Chicago, and met Huey when her family moved to Cincinnati when she was a teenager.They married May 11, 1943, before Huey was deployed to the South Pacific during World War II. After the war they moved to Jackson Township, where they began to raise their family and met their dearest friends, Ray and Evelyn Getz, and the many other Taggart Avenue residents who remained their friends throughout their lives.A stay-at-home mom until her children were teenagers, Char often took out her Gregg Shorthand book to polish her skills. For many of those years, she was a volunteer for the Red Cross. She later worked in various secretarial positions and eventually worked for many years as a broker's assistant at Merrill Lynch, the company from which she retired.Charlene loved to move, and the Longs moved to five different homes as their family grew, but they always lived within Jackson Township. Hugh and Charlene's final move was to the Park Village campus in Dover. The family thanks the entire staff for the kindness and compassion they showed for both of our parents.Char loved to read and was also an accomplished artist. For many years she was a member of a group of fellow painters, as they audited art classes at Kent State University-Stark and later met weekly at the North Canton library.Char is survived by daughter Cindy (Ed) Scarfpin; daughter Mary (Aane) Aaby and their children, David Aaby and Andrea (Dan Trivett) Aaby, and their children Andrew and David; son David (Cindy) and their children, Shane (Donita) Massing and Seth (Olivia) Massing and their son Jovan; and friend Evelyn Getz and her family. Also surviving are niece Bonnie Kraft Halhober and her family and nephew Bill Kraft and his family.She was preceded in death by her one true love, her husband, Huey; her sister Carol Kraft; and a nephew Chuck Kraft.The family encourages memorial donations to the Community Hospice (716 Commercial Ave., SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663) or the Stark County Humane Society.
