Florence Bryan Lannen known to her beloved as "Grandma Bubbles" Passed away on February 19, 2014 aged 93 Resident of Coal City, Illinois Born on March 10, 1920 on a small farm in Tridelphia, WV, Florence was the 3rd child of 9 to Charles and Ida (nee Khoury) Bryan. When Florence was around age 4, the growing family moved to Massillon, OH where they became well established fixtures in the Massillon community, and active members of St. Joseph's Church. Florence married Mr. Lawrence R. Lannen II on June 19, 1948. After their marriage, the couple took up residence in Wisconsin for 6 years, where Florence gave birth to Laurie, Lawrence III and Diane. The young family then decided to make the Chicagoland area their home, where Lawrence Sr. found work at Central Steel, and Florence remained home to care for the family. Tiny and lively, Florence loved the beauty of life, her children, and grandchildren, and spring time. She was an enthusiastic sports fan, lifelong fan of the Massillon Tigers, and could often be heard shouting at the television on Sunday afternoons when the games were being aired. Her 93 years allowed her to witness the struggles and brutality of life; the Great Depression, World War II, and the Vietnam War, but also to the remarkable beauty and advancements made in the 20th century. Though she was not a Nobel laureate, or achieved any great professional success, Florence became the matriarch to three generations who knew her best as "Grandma Bubbles," and she is dearly missed. Preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ida (nee Khoury) Bryan, brother John Bryan, brother and Massillon Chief of Police Richard "Dick" Bryan, brother Chester Bryan, brother Albert Bryan, sister Virginia Bryan, and husband Lawrence Lannen II. Florence is survived by her 3 children Laurie (nee Lannen) Volk, Lawrence Lannen III, Diane (nee Lannen) Caprara, 6 grandchildren, Nicole Caprara, Carrie McDonough, Michael Volk, Ashley Volk, Lawrence Lannen IV, Lindsay Lannen, 2 great children Khalil McDonough, and Loki McDonough Mitchell, Sister Rosemary (late Steve) Wiggington, brother Charles Bryan, brother James (Sally) Bryan, and sister-in-law Janice (late Richard) Bryan. Memorial Services will be held At St. Joseph's Cemetery Chapel on Saturday, May 24th at 10AM, and luncheon will follow in the school events room.
