Evelyn W. Mays

Evelyn W. Mays, 99 of Massillon, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018. Evelyn was born on May 23, 1918 in Navarre, the daughter of the late Jerome and Adeline (McInnes) Smith. She was the matriarch of 5 generations. Evelyn was a member of the Massillon Wesleyan Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 50 years. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Mays in 1982; great-granddaughter, Emily Speaker; sisters, Pauline Miller and Velma “Susie” Smith; brothers, Raymond, George, Clarence, Clifford and Paul Smith; and step-father, Martin Andrews. She is survived by her children, Tom (Lona) Mays and Judy Ann (Jerry) Steiner; grandchildren, Gregory Mays, Todd (Jennifer) Mays, Jeffrey (Lisa) Mays, Kelly (Scott) Wood, Lisa (Matt) Speaker, Lauri (Jim) Livingston, and Michelle (Dallas) Mayle; 22 great-grandchildren; and 18 great- great grandchildren. A Celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Massillon Wesleyan Methodist Church Missions.
