Eva Jean Black, 83, of Massillon, passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Aultman Compassionate Care Center, Canton following an extended illness. She was born in Barberton, on November 12, 1928 to the late Emery & Carrie E. (Piatt) Vess. She graduated from Washington High School, and Business School in Canton. She worked at Ecko Products and then Nickles Bakery in the payroll department, retiring in 1991. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Massillon. Eva Jean was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and neighbor, always with family and always helping to care for them. She loved the out of doors. Surviving are her: daughter, Lynn & Robert Legg of Akron, three grandchildren; Maegan & David Traugott of Massillon, Eric Peltier of Green & Joshua & Dandi McCarty of Canton, five great-granddaughters, and a nephew, Jerry & Sheila Vess of Massillon. She was preceded in death by: a great-grandson, two brothers; Larry & Roger Vess and an infant sister. Friends may call one hour prior to a funeral service at 11:00AM on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the Paquelet Funeral Home, Massillon. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Fr. Edward Gretchko, celebrant. Memorial contributions may be made to the Aultman Compassionate Care Center, Canton.
