Eugene R. “Jim” Fritz, passed away peacefully surrounded by family members, March 11, 2007 at St. Luke Lutheran Community at Portage Lakes. He was born on April 23, 1922 in Canton, Ohio to the late Otto and Vera (Makin) Fritz. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged after serving during WWII. He retired from Republic Steel in Massillon. Jim enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, boating at Portage Lakes, fishing at Lake Erie, listening to music and vacationing with the gang in Florida during the winter months. He was a featured show skier and one of the original founders of the Myers Lake Water Ski Club as well as the Akron Snow Ski Club Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Bob. He is survived by his wife, Martha (Mungo) Galvin Fritz,. Also surviving is a sister Mary Lou Hostetler, brothers Don (Dorothy) Fritz and Bill Fritz, daughter Judy Cain, 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 P.M. at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home with Rev. Edd Matako officiating. Interment will be in Massillon Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 P.M. and on Thursday from 12:30 PM until the time of the service.
