Esther L. Gumpp, age 80 of Portage Lakes passed away January 9, 2013 at Akron City Hospital. Esther was born April 3, 1932 in Massillon to the late John & Florence (Combs) Montgomery and was a 1950 graduate of Washington High School. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church. Esther loved to travel. Some of her favorite places to travel include Hawaii, Florida, Colorado, and San Francisco. She enjoyed cooking and hosting family get togethers. Esther loved to spend time with her family and had a very special relationship with each of her children and grandchildren. Within the last five years, Esther was excited to see her family grow with the addition of great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two children: Douglas H. Gumpp and Cindi Casper; and a sister and brother, Thelma J. Montgomery and Therman Montgomery who were twins. Esther is survived by her husband Richard J. Gumpp with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. They have a daughter and son in law, Linda & William Bird and six grandchildren; Shelley (Matt) Green, Douglas Bird, Nicole (Matt) Maxon, Tiffany (Bryan) DeBois, Crystal Cline and Richard (Jaclyn) Cline and six great grandchildren; Lauren, Andrew, Hunter, Carter, Mason and Grace. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 3:00 P.M. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon, Rev. Steven Gower will officiate. Her final resting place will be Massillon Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:30 to 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial can be made to First Christian Church in Massillon in Esther's name.
