Esther f. Haas age 93 of Massillon passed away peacefully Thursday September 21, 2006 at the Laurels of Massillon after an extended illness. A lifetime Massillon resident, she was born March 23, 1913, the daughter of Nicholas and Margaret Linckenhely. Esther was the first woman to hold an elective office in Northeast Ohio, serving Massillon as City Treasurer from 1954-1978. She presided over many church and civic organizations throughout her active years. Most noteworthy were the St. Mary's Rosary Confraternity, Central Catholic Ladies Guild, the Isabellas of the Massillon Knights of Columbus and the Stark County Western Democratic Club. She was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward in 1994. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Nick Sr. and Pat of North Canton; sadly missed but never forgotten by three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who always brought a smile to Grandma's lovely face. The family of Esther would like to thank Dr. Seth Brown and Dr. Ken Biros and their staffs, The Canton Regency and the The Laurels of Massillon and their staffs, for their kindness, care and concern these last five years. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Monday, September 25, 2006 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Robert Kaylor as celebrant. Interment will be at Massillon St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 9:30 AM - 10:45AM at the Paquelet Funeral Home.
