Esther B. Brown, age 93, of Massillon passed away Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Amherst Meadows Skilled Nursing Center where she had been a resident for the past four years. She was born October 29, 1916 in Massillon the daughter of the late Fred and Minnie (Fowkes) Hazel, and was a 1936 graduate of Washington High School. Esther had been employed by the Automatic Canteen Co. of Ohio in North Canton, the Ben Franklin Store, and during W.W. II worked in the metalurgical laboratory at Republic Steel. Esther was member of Faith Community Church in Canton, the Happy Hearts Club, and the Massillon Senior Citizens Club. She was also a charter member of A.A.R.P. # 3968, and did volunteer work at Massillon City Hospital. Esther is survived by step-children Patricia (Thomas) Blubaugh of Columbus, and Robert A. Brown II of Wagoner, OK; several step grand, great- grand, and great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband PFC Carlos B. Hahn who was killed in the Battle of the Buldge in 1945, second husband Lester Blyar in 1964, and third husband Robert A. Brown in 1994; a sister Rosamond Lucas; brothers Frederick Hazel, James Hazel, Kenneth Hazel, twin brother Chester Hazel; step daughter Shirley Webb. Funeral services will be Friday, September 3rd at 11:00 A.M. at the Faith Community Church in Canton where visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Interment will follow in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Memorial contributions in Esther’s memory may be given to Faith Community Church. Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home 1100 Wales Rd.
