Ernest B. Woody Wood

August 4, 1919 — November 6, 2006

Ernest B. Wood (Woody) went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 6 after an extended illness at the Hanover House in Massillon. Ernie was born on Aug. 4, 1919, in Somerton, Ohio, Belmont County. He was preceded in death by Bennie & Vema (Thornberry) Wood, his parents, William his brother and sister Pearl Sells. Survived by his wife of 66 years, Violet (Moore) Wood. They would have celebrated their 67th anniversary on December 25th. Also a son James W. (Karen) Wood of Massillon, three grandsons, Darrin Wood of Denver Colorado, Jamie (Angel) Wood of Massillon, Andrew (Lori) Wood of Massillon, a granddaughter Tara (Greg) Sheperd of Beech Bottom WV, and a great grandson Travis Wood of Massillon. Also survived by 4 sister-in-laws Geraldine Brown of Jerusalem, Ohio, Margaret Kratz of Roanoke VA, Irene (George) Fouty of New Matamoras, Oh, and Gwenny (Durward) Blaney, Of Vincent, Oh. and several close nieces and nephews. Ernie was a member of the Church of Christ for 68 years and was a very active member of the Massillon Church of Christ. He retired as an electrician from LTV Steel and predecessor companies in 1985. Ernie was a carpet installer for over 50 years. He was a season ticket holder for the Massillon Tiger Football team for over 60 years. Hobbies included services to others, hunting, fishing, gardening and watching Massillon Tigers Football Calling hours will be at Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon from 4pm-8pm Wednesday and one hour prior to the funeral to be held on Thursday at 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
