Emmett Hugh Long

Emmett Hugh Long, 93, of Dover, and formerly of Jackson Towship, passed away November 3, 2014. Huey was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on August 9, 1921, and was a graduate of Roger Bacon High School. He married the love of his life, Florence Charlene Fairweather, on May 11, 1943, and they had 71 devoted years together. She survives him. Huey served in the US Navy as a pharmacist's mate, first class, in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He and Charlene moved to Jackson Township in 1947, where they raised their three children and met their friends Ray and Evelyn Getz. For 40 years Huey was a salesman of medical supplies, retiring from Medline Industries of Mundelein, Illinois. He was a masterful storyteller, and his children never heard a joke told by anyone else that they hadn't already heard told better by their father. Huey was an early member of the Church of the Lakes United Methodist Church and also for many years was a member of McDonaldsville St. Paul United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a 50-year member of the William McKinley Lodge No. 0431. Huey was preceded in death by his dear friend Ray Getz. In addition to his wife Charlene, he is also survived by daughter Cindy Scarfpin (husband Ed); daughter Mary Aaby (husband Aane) and their children Andrea and David Aaby; son David Long (wife Cindy) and their children Shane and Seth Massing; and friend Evelyn Getz and her family. The family thanks the staffs at the Park Village Community, Union Hospital, and the Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia for the care and compassion they provided. The family encourages memorial donations to the Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663. Services will be held at the Paquelet Funeral Home, 1100 Wales Road NE, Massillon, on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour before the service.
