Emma L. Cooper, age 89 of Massillon, died on Monday, June 22, 2009 at her home. She was born on November 3, 1919 in Massillon and was the daughter of the late Willie and Mary Alice (Pickens) Heaton. She had worked at MCA Sign Company for 25 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, and the sewing and card clubs at the church, she also worked with the Cradle Roll church nursery. Emma loved her family and enjoyed traveling with her grandchildren to Ocean City, Maryland. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Cooper, her sisters, Flora Moore, Florence Abbott and “Boots” Engelhardt and her brothers Lee Heaton and Chuck Heaton. She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Mary Evelyn & Robert Rudy of Massillon, her grandchildren and their spouses, Scott & Gina Rudy of Mesa, AZ and Kevin & Kay Rudy of Hamilton, VA, her great grandchildren, Zachary Rudy, Aubrey Rudy, Hannah Rudy, Faith Rudy and Jacob Rudy, her sister Helen Tissot of Massillon and her brother John Heaton of California. A graveside service will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Brookfield Cemetery. Rev. Leslie Peine will officiate. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will take place at First United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 6:30 P.M. The family suggests that memorials be made in the name of Emma L. Cooper to First United Methodist Church, 301 Lincoln Way East, Massillon, OH 44646.
