It is with great sadness that the family of Emil H. Dominick “Junior” announced his death at the age of 89 on February 8, 2022. Emil passed away at The Laurels of Massillon, surrounded by his family following a steady decline in health. Born January 29, 1933, in Massillon, Ohio, he was the son of the late Emil and Mary (Beres) Dominick. Emil graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1951. He was married for 58 years to the late Virginia (Reed) Dominick on May 2, 1959. Emil was a veteran of the United States Army as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. After proudly serving his country, he retired after 30 years from Union Drawn Steel and then drove trucks with Roberts Express for 12 years. He was a skilled tradesman who could build or fix anything. He spent many years working alongside his dad and brother, building residential houses. Emil was a member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed vacationing and spending time with his family and friends. One of his life-long passions was boating. He got his start as one of the founding fathers of Cluster Island, located on the Ohio River. He also pioneered the legendary houseboat trips to Dale Hollow and Lake Cumberland. Emil was known as “Junior” to many of his family and friends. He had a collection of over 1,000 ballcaps. Many of them were collected during his travels across the country with Roberts Express and throughout the many vacation destinations that he visited. The hat collection dubbed him the name and original founder of the “Mad Hatters” Massillon Tiger tailgaters. He always enjoyed a nice cold beer. He enjoyed Duke & Schaefer Beer and the famous Weekender 34 Packs early on. However, as he aged, he developed a fondness for fine craft beers. Emil will be remembered for passing along his epic sayings that will live on through his family and close friends. His greatest joy was his four grandchildren. He considered them his hobby, and he was involved with their interests and activities. He taught Logan how to fish, Wyatt how to play football, Emily how to sing, and Ellie how to dance. Emil will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his family. He is survived by his two daughters, Sheri Steffey, Lisa, and her husband Christopher Smith: four grandchildren, Logan and Emily Steele and Wyatt and Ellie Smith, sister-in-law Joann (Detweiler) Dominick, nieces, nephews, and many family members. On our family’s behalf, we would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to Randy Reed and his late brother Richard for all their care and support. Emil was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, his brother Reinhold “Sonny” Dominick, his sister Irene Metzger and his parents Emil and Mary Dominick. On February 14, 2022, the family will receive friends from 6pm-8pm at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Edward Gretchko at 10:30am on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Brookfield Cemetery. Paquelet Funeral Home & Crematory 330-833-3222 www.paquelet.com
