Elmer E. Carpenter, 89, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Affinity Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Akron on January 28, 1924 to the late Elmer E. & Anna (Nickles) Carpenter, Sr.. Elmer was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Marine Corps in the 4th Division, he saw combat in Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima, where he received a purple heart . He had worked at Firestone Tire Co., Goodyear Tire Co, Cope Brothers, Ford Motor Co, Union Drawn Steel, Posture Products and then started the Trading Post in 1949, retiring in 1989. He also worked part time as a school bus driver for Jackson Local Schools and St. Joseph Catholic School. He was a member of Massillon Baptist Temple and a life member of the V.F. W. Post 5047, Navarre, and past president of The Tiger Gun Club He is survived by his wife Mildred H. (Heather) Carpenter, whom he married on June 7, 1947, four children, Kevin A. Carpenter of Massillon, Kim Ann Karam of Canton, Keith A. Carpenter of Massillon & Kenneth G. Snyder of Virginia, six grandchildren & three great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home on Sunday, February 24, 2013 from 2:00PM-5:00PM. Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 25, 2013 at 10:30AM in the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home. Burial will be in Western Reserve National Cemetery.
