Elmer D. Hayes

Elmer D. Hayes age 79 of Massillon, passed away Tuesday morning at Affinity Medical Center. He was born on January 11, 1929 in Fairmont, WV to the late Willie and Verna (Merrill) Hayes. Elmer was a United States Army Veteran serving during WWII. He retired from Mercury Stainless Steel in 1991 following 39 years of service. He was most known for his sense of humor and “joking” with those around him. Elmer enjoyed spending time reading the Bible. He was a member of Community Full Gospel Church in Navarre. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. Hayes who passed away August 21, 1989; two brothers and four sisters. Elmer is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marie (Paul) Watson of Massillon; grandchildren, Melissa L. Watson and Kevin J. (Rebecca) Watson; sisters, Linda Phillips of North Canton and Betty Cannon of Strasburg. Funeral services celebrating Elmer’s life will be held Thursday at 1:00 PM at the Arnold – Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon with Rev. Denzil D. Lawson officiating. Calling hours will be Thursday 11:00 – 1:00 PM. Interment will follow the services at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions can be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
