Ellen Frances Hershey

Ellen F. Hershey, age 96 passed away on January 28, 2017. She was born in Massillon on June 14, 1920 to the late Ernest and Ivah Dingelstedt. She was a graduate of Washington High School. She was married to Richard A. Hershey Sr. until his passing in 1974. Ellen worked as a secretary at First Christian Church until her retirement. In her spare time she liked sewing, crocheting, quilting, gardening and knitting. She knit many baby hats for the premature babies at Aultman Hospital. Ellen is survived by her daughters Karen L. Porter and Christina (Ronald) Davis; Her grandchildren Kelly (Dale Balazowich) Walker, Kimberly (Alan) Stanford; Tonya Porter, Aaron (Angela) Davis, Pete (Regan Leslie) Davis, Amy (Chris) Major, Michael Hershey and Richard A. Hershey III; 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Richard A. Hershey Jr. and her brother Leslie McGill. A Celebration of Ellen's life will be held at the First Christian Church at 1020 Wales Road NE, Massillon, OH on Wednesday at 11a.m. Pastor Steven Gower will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 10am until the service.
