Elizabeth J. Hill

Elizabeth J. Hill (Polefrone), 98, passed away September 3, 2019 at the House of Loreto in Canton after an extended illness. Born July 21, 1921, Elizabeth grew up in a large Italian family in the North Hill section of Akron. The daughter of grocery merchants Catherine and Phillip Polefrone, she was lovingly nurtured in an apartment above her parent's store along with four sisters and four brothers. With encouragement from her father, she developed a love of reading from a young age and was a voracious reader for most of her life. Elizabeth married fellow Akronite Leon Hill on August 26, 1944. The couple subsequently moved to North Canton with their three young children where she worked at the Hoover Company for several years. Leon passed away in 2013. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Vivian Patrino, Sue Katanic, Amelia Dallas and Rita Grescovich and brothers Nicholas, Phillip and Frank Polefrone. Her children and their spouses who adored her and survive are Katherine (Ronald) DeMuesy of Jackson Township, Mary Frances (David) Gordon of Indianapolis, Indiana and Robert (Norma) Hill of North Canton. She is also survived by grandchildren Ronald DeMuesy Jr. (Julie) of Dublin, Ohio, Elizabeth (Kuni) Okuma of Twinsburg, James DeMuesy (Sharon) of Cincinnati, Cate Marshall and Mary Margaret Gordon of Indianapolis, Indiana, Thomas Hill (Rachel) of Cincinnati and Caroline Hill of Columbus. Additionally, she is survived by her great-grandchildren Madeline DeMuesy (Brian Poston) of Cincinnati, Will DeMuesy of Dublin, Ohio, Olivia and Elizabeth Marshall and Blake Thompson of Indianapolis, Indiana, Katherine and J.D. Okuma of Twinsburg and great-great-grandson Teddy Poston of Cincinnati. Her brother Joseph (Mae) Polefrone, sister-in-law Shirley Polefrone of Tallmadge and many loving nieces and nephews also survive. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Reverend John Keehner at the House of Loreto (2812 Harvard Avenue N.W., Canton, Ohio) Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 10 A.M. The family will receive guests one hour before mass on Saturday from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. at the House of Loreto. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Elizabeth's name to The House of Loreto, 2812 Harvard Avenue N.W. Canton, Ohio 44709. The family would like to express their appreciation to the sisters and staff of the House of Loreto for all of the care and kindness provided to Elizabeth during her time there.
