Elizabeth E. Simpson

Elizabeth E. Simpson, 94, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2015, at Altercare of Nobles Pond after a brief illness. She was born on August 21, 1920, in Uhrichsville, Ohio, the daughter of the late Arthur and Hazel (Johnson) Riffil. Elizabeth was a resident of Massillon for ninety-two years, was the oldest graduate of St. Joseph's Elementary School, was May Queen at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and was a 1938 graduate of Massillon Washington High School. Elizabeth was a homemaker, but prior to marriage, she worked as a secretary for Monsignor Hartmann at Calvary Cemetery. She also worked part-time jobs at J.C. Penney Co., Royce's Shoes, and Del's Shoes. Elizabeth enjoyed sewing, baking, reading, gardening, playing cards, and spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Rosary Society. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Howard E. in 1975, her siblings, twin sister Evelyn Herman Jennison, Rosemary Banfield, and Joseph Riffil, and her "special friend," Harold Krantz. Elizabeth is survived by her children, Mary E. (Joseph) Faigley and John H. (Sandy) Simpson; her grandchildren, John Alexander Simpson, Lindsay (Keith) Fochler, Clinton (C.J.) (Rachel) Alguire, Rob, Laura, and Julie Goll; her great-grandchildren, Stevie, Brooklyn, Kallie, Zoe, and Ella; her godson and nephew, Leo (Sue) Herman; her special nephew, John Herman; many other nieces and nephews; her special friends, Lynn and Bob Goll and David Weymiller. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 17, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fr. Raymond Paul officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Massillon. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Wales Rd. in Massillon on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Stark Co. Humane Society.
