Elizabeth "Betty" Zelei

Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Zelei, age 93 of Massillon passed away December 1, 2018 at the Danbury Senior Living Center. Betty was born January 23, 1925 in Massillon to the late Mike & Mary (Takacs) Zelei. She was a graduate of Washington High School and a life resident of Massillon. She was employed for 16 years at Eaton Mfg. in the office. In 1959 Betty and her sister Margaret Zelie open Zelei Ladies Hat Store. Thru the years the offerings expanded from ladies hats to jewelry, accessories and eventually dresses. Most years Betty and Margaret would take a buying trip to New York City to purchase stock for their clientele. This was a personal highlight for them. The ladies retired in 1993. Betty was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Christian-Mothers Club, Massillon Women’s’ Club and the Red Hatters. In addition to her parents a she was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Zelei in 2000 and her brother Mike Zelei in 2007. Betty is survived by cousins and dear friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Massillon, her pastor Fr. Raymond Paul will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 AM until the time of the Mass at St. Joseph Church. Donations may be direct to the St. Joseph Memorial Fund.
