Eilene Clawson Schumacher Is now resting with her beloved husband Jim and parents Kenneth and Alta Clawson Senior. Eilene was born on June 11, 1931 in New Kensington Pennsylvania. The Clawson's moved to Massillon in 1946. As a member of the National Honor Society, Eilene graduated from Washington High in 1949. While attending Washington High School, she met her husband to-be Jim Schumacher. While Jim finished high school (1951), Eilene worked as a secretary at the Massillon Community Hospital. Upon Jim's graduation in 1951, a scholarship to play football took him to Columbus to play for Woody Hayes and the Buckeyes. After a long year of separation, Eilene and Jim were married on June 21, 1952. During their time in Columbus Eilene worked as a secretary for Northrup Aviation. The Schumacher's then moved back home to Massillon where son Eric and daughter Jody were born and raised. As an Executive Assistant, Eilene worked for the Central States Can Corporation for 23 years, retiring in 1992. During retirement she volunteered as the food bank coordinator for many years at Stanwood Community Church. Eilene was also active with the Massillon Women's Club and the Massillon Alumni Association. She also enjoyed collecting Hummel plates and figurines, embroidering quilt squares, and baking her famous cookies. As lifetime Varsity "O" members Eilene and Jim loved their Ohio State Buckeyes. For over 50 years she enjoyed hundreds of games at "The Shoe" - even attending the Rose Bowl in 1985. In 2013 she attended the OSU women's football camp. To her dismay Urban Meyer invited her up on stage and presented her with a signed game ball, as nearly 500 women campers sang happy birthday to her. In addition, Eilene was an avid Cleveland sports fan. But the love of her life was her grandchildren Patrick, Noelle, Paige and Payton. Eilene so enjoyed the many years of babysitting, transporting, and cooking for them. They were her life for these past 25 years. Eilene is survived by son Eric Schumacher and wife Paula; daughter Jody (Schumacher) Stewart and husband Brady; grandchildren: Patrick and Noelle Schumacher; Paige and Payton Stewart. Eilene was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Alta Clawson Sr. and brothers: Kenneth (Skip) Clawson Jr. and Ross Clawson. The family would like to thank the numerous doctors who have shown extraordinary care and concern for Eilene during her years battling cancer. These physicians are: Doctors Brian McClain, Shruti Trehan, Susan Cheng, and Jeffrey Marsh along with the Woodlawn's Rehabilitation Staff. In addition we would like to extend our heartfelt special thanks to Doctor Steve Grossman and Aultman's Compassion Care Center's staff. Doctor Steve is truly one of a kind. Lastly, a great big hug and thanks to Aultman College President Becky Crowl who has guided us in so many ways over the years.
