Edward R. Profant

July 14, 1921 — April 6, 2006

Edward R. Profant passed away Thursday, April 6, 2006 in Mesquite, Texas. He was born on July 14, 1921 in Massillon to the late Andrew and Anna Profant. Edward will be remembered by many in the Massillon City Schools, a system to which he devoted 32 years of his life. One of ten children of immigrant parents, Ed learned the value of hard work and higher education from his parents. He worked at Republic Steel, going on to achieve a Masters degree in Elementary Administration and two bachelor's degrees. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. One of the first male elementary school teachers in the Massillon system, Ed's first teaching position was at Old Franklin Elementary. He then was selected to become principal of Lincoln Elementary, followed by years as principal at Franklin, Gorell and York Schools. His fondest wish was that his time in education would better the life of at least one child. In fact, his stewardship of the young touched many lives. Ed hopes to be remembered by those who knew him as a man whose bark was worse than his bite. A man with a ready smile and kind remarks to those he called friend. Ed enjoyed ballroom dancing, coaching basketball, bowling and playing golf. Ed was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, serving in the past as usher and choir member. Devoted to his family, Ed was preceded in death by his wife Virginia; sisters, Anna & Helen Profant, Susan Elasky and Mary Lucansky; brothers, John, Matthew, Andrew, and Michael Profant. He is survived by three daughters; Nina, Paula and husband Sam, Alene and husband Greg, four grandsons: Edward and wife Bonnie, Brent, Sean, Jacob, two granddaughters; Jessica, Kaitlyn, and three great grandsons; Gaven, Hunter, and Sebastian. A brother, Daniel Profant. Ed will be buried at Massillon Cemetery next to Virginia, following a graveside service for immediate family. A patriot, Ed served in the Navy during WWII.
