Surrounded by those who deeply loved him, Edward N. Bast, 74, walked into the arms of his loving Heavenly Father Monday evening. Ed co-founded Buckeye Paper Company in 1981 and served as president until he retired in 2004. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Ed had a talent for writing beautiful, inspirational poetry about his faith in the Lord. He enjoyed making crafts fashioned out of wood for his children and grandchildren. He never turned down an invitation to play a great game of cards with friends and family. Ed is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jane Bast, his daughters Lisa Bast and Michele (Bill) Yarbrough; his son Edward N. (Gina ) Bast, Jr.; eight grandchildren Renee Bast-Lattavo, Jaimie Bast, Eddie Bast, Ben Bast, Olivia Bast, Michaela Yarbrough, Marisa Yarbrough, Brianne Yarbrough and two great-grandchildren Christian Lattavo and Grace Lattavo; sisters Toni (Robert) Szanto and Cindy Geleski. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Kathryn Bast and a sister Jackie Meyer. Ed was a righteous, humble and generous man, never one to nurse a grudge or speak unkindly about anyone. We will greatly mourn his loss as it leaves an indelible void in our lives but we are consoled that he is now at peace after battling a prolonged illness. His legacy will continue to inspire our family and we are especially grateful for the years we spent with him. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St. Timothy Episcopal Church, Massillon, The Rev. Henry Harris officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions to the American Lung Association, Wounded Warrior Project or Aultman Compassionate Care Center.
