Edward J. Mastnick, age 88 of Massillon, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at Amherst Meadows. Ed was born April 23, 1921 in Massillon to the late John & Alice (Tashler) Mastnick. During World War II, he served in both the Army Air Corp and the Marines. In 1983 Ed retired from Tyson Roller Bearing Co. Ed had a love for music; his skill with an accordion was recognized. At St. Barbara’s Church he was in the Men’s Club, Choir and participated in the Minstrels. He was a member of the Third Order of St. Frances. Ed had Massillon Tiger tickets for 40 years and loved the Tigers. Ed was active in the Senior Olympics and ran in many marathons. He enjoyed the Hall of Fame Luncheon Meetings. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Jackie (Reichel) in 2007; sister, Anne Newlon and two brothers, Joe & Carl Mastnick. He is survived by six children and their spouses: Joseph Mastnick of Massillon, Holly Hennessey of Placerville, CA., John & Jill Mastnick of Cuyahoga Falls, Stephen & Mary Ann Mastnick of Massillon, Jennifer & Eliot Cook of Hartville, and Damian & Sherry Mastnick of Columbus, OH. The grandchildren are: Nate, Heidi, Lindsay, Lauren, Jeremiah, Jason, Marion; and three great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Saturday at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church his pastor Fr. Thomas Cebula will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Hills Memory Garden.
