Edward J. Mali, 72, of Perry Township, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, February 12, 2021. Ed was born on October 13, 1948, in Canton, the son of the late Frank and Marjorie (Liggett) Maly. He was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Glenwood High School. Ed was a United States Air Force and Army National Guard veteran. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kent State University. Ed retired from Babcock and Wilcox after 29 years of service. In retirement, Ed found a new passion as a member of the Portage Lakes Rowing Association. He loved all things related to the sport of rowing. He golfed, loved playing chess with his grandson, and was a talented home-improver. Ed and his wife Sue enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and abroad and looked forward to their winter migration to Sanibel Florida for birding and bicycling. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank W. Maly; and sister, Lucinda Bardin. He is survived by his wife Sue (McFarren) Mali, whom he would have celebrated 45 years of marriage in March; daughter, Julie (Eric) Hoagland; beloved grandson, Anthony Edward Ceccanese; sisters, Patricia Kroft of Louisville, Jeri Maly of Massachusetts, Roma (Farshad) Barman of Oregon; and brother, Robert Maly of Indiana. According to his wishes, cremation will take place. A Celebration of Ed’s life will be announced later.
