Edward E. Chovan

February 23, 1924 — January 21, 2009

Edward E. Chovan, age 84 of Navarre, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Rose Lane Center. He was born on February 23, 1924 in Massillon, son of the late John and Mary (Elasky) Chovan. Edward served in the Army during WWII, were he was taken prisoner by the Japanese in the fall of Corregidor. He also received the Purple Heart. Edward worked for the Massillon Post Office and was a member of the National Letter Carriers. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. (Hershberger) Chovan, whom he married on January 25, 1951; his daughter, Deborah A. Roby of Massillon; his grandchildren, Ryan (M.J.) Roby of Hartville and Erin and Kara Roby both of Massillon; his expected great-grandson soon to be born; his brothers, Danny Chovan of Toledo, Paul Chovan of Massillon and Bill Chovan of N.C.; his sisters, Mary of VA and Ann & Lydia both of MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 26, 2009 at 9:30 A.M. at St. Barbara Catholic Church. Friends may call at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 – 4 P.M. Fr.
