Edward A. Kerchner

Edward A. Kerchner, 84, of Massillon, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023. Edward was born on September 18, 1938 in Tiffin, Ohio, the son of the late Harvey and Anna Marie (Heffner) Kerchner. Ed graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1956. After graduation he joined the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany and was chosen for an elite competitive riffle team, where they won international honors. Upon returning from the Army he became a State Highway Patrolman and was assigned to the State Highway Patrol Post in Massillon. He later became employed with the insurance industry while attending Kent State University. He retired as a manager from Anthem Insurance Co. Ed enjoyed golfing, collecting carnival and Tiffin glass, he was also a huge Ohio sports fan. Ed was a member of Canton Baptist Temple and enjoyed volunteering as a camera man during church services. His family was most important to him and his strong faith in God.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sonja, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage; children, Jeff Kerchner, Deena (Jerry) Warehime, and Karen (Mike) Schulze; grandchildren, Jessica (Cory) Kerns, Jennifer (Tim) Koenig, Allyssa Kerchner, and, Angela Kerchner, Olivia (Joey) Valentine, BJ "Jerry" (Matison) Warehime, Bailey Schulze, Sam (Amanda) Schulze, and Grace Schulze; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Harvey (Ursel) Kerchner, Dennis (Joyce) Kerchner, Raymond (Dorene) Kerchner, and Howard (Kathy) Kerchner; brother-In-Law, Milton (Jackie) Smith; and numerous nieces, and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to join the family on Friday, May 19, 2023 from 1 - 2 p.m. at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either Massillon Christian School: 965 Overlook Avenue SW, Massillon, OH 44647 or SAM Center (Military Assistance Organization) : 413 Lincoln Way E., Massillon, OH 44646.
