Edmund George David

Edmund George David, age 98 of Massillon passed away Sunday, November 23, 2008 in Canfield, OH, surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born January 3, 1910 in Mannington, WV to the late Joseph & Marie (Tobey) David. Ed was the third of fourteen children and starting working at an early age. He sold chestnuts and newspapers at the age of five in Massillon’s downtown and as a teenager was proud to work in his father’s confectionary. Edmund was a graduate of Washington High in 1929 and remained a loyal alumnus and forever a Tiger Football Fan. Ed had a varied business career, beginning as manager of the Boston Lunch to establishing David Brothers Wholesale. Edmund was deeply involved in St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served on the Finance Committee and the Cemetery Committee. He directed the purchase of additional cemetery ground. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, K of C. #554 and Bishop Massillon Assembly 4th Degree. Ed had the distinction of serving as WHS Class of 1929 Reunion Treasurer. Edmund was married to his beautiful wife, Iona (Cecconi) David on October 16, 1937 and shared 61 years of marriage until her death in 1999. He was preceded in death by four sister & three brothers: Tofic David, Esser David, Elizabeth David, Evelyn David Josephine Castora, Helen David & Paul David. Ed is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Marilyn & Gerald Looby of North Canton and Janet & Paul Palumbo of Canfield; grandchildren, Gerald (Allyson) Looby, David (Melissa) Looby, Joseph (Trish) Looby, Andrea Looby Summerlot, Anne Marie (James) Snow, Paul (Valerie) Palumbo, Michael Palumbo and Joseph Palumbo; great grandchildren, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Joseph, Olivia, Audrey, Matthew, Kathryn, Michael, Maria, Andrew and Lauren. Additional survivors include a sister Isabelle George of Akron; brothers, Thomas David of North Carolyn, John & Marci David, Raymond David, Fr. Joseph ‘Richard’ David, Robert & Caroline David all of Massillon. Sisters in law: Genevieve David, Lou David and Carol David. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. His pastor Fr. Raymond Paul will officiate and his brother Fr. Joseph David will concelebrate. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Donations can be sent to St. Joseph Memorial Fund in Massillon.
