Duane Charles Grizzard went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 14, 2017 unexpectedly. He was nearly a lifelong resident of Massillon, OH having briefly resided in Cleveland. Duane was the son of the late Robert C. Grizzard and Lula M. (Miller) Grizzard. Duane graduated from Washington High School in 1975. Following graduation, he attended Cuyahoga Community College where he majored in English and minored in Social Science. He was briefly employed as a vocational engineer; and, he volunteered for Project More at Franklin Elementary School tutoring students in reading. Duane enjoyed being active in the church, particularly serving faithfully in numerous capacities at Morning Star United Holy Church. He was most proud of being a youth aide. Duane was also affiliated with the Holiness Church of Christ Deliverance Center. He looked forward to attending their annual conventions, particularly singing joyfully in the convention choir. Most recently Duane attended Mount Calvary Baptist Church where he enjoyed the music ministry immensely. Duane enjoyed life and doing the things that brought him great pleasure. He loved writing, and would be quick to send a note of encouragement or a thoughtful card to uplift a person’s Spirit. He had a unique sense of knowing when to grace someone with a heartfelt message. In addition, Duane enjoyed traveling, dining at restaurants, reading, attending multiple churches in the local community and bowling. In addition to his parents, Duane was predeceased by his brother, Robert Haven. He leaves to cherish his memory, his dear sister Mary Jeter, two brothers, Howard and Dennis Sr., his faithful niece Ranetta, and Sonji; nephews, Brandon, Jeremy and Dennis Jr. (DJ). Among his special friends are Bobby Gillom, Keith Miller, Deloris Holloway, Melanie and Aaron Robinson, and Millie Stergios. Also, he leaves faithful prayer partners, numerous relatives, and many friends from various walks of life. A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 12 p.m. (Noon) at Mount Calvary Baptist Church: 27 4th Street N.E., Massillon, OH. Interment will follow at Massillon Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to the service. Messages of comfort and support may be sent to the family at www.paquelet.com.
